It has been warned that the war in Ukraine and the resulting energy crisis might lead to a tipping of the public opinion in Europe and the US. The key aim of this study is to monitor the sentiment in Germany and the US, in order to observe describe sentiment dynamics and to document tipping.
With weekly / bi-weekly administered online questionnaires (via the online research panel provider LUCID/CINT), Social Sentiment in Times of Crises measures political opinions, trust in institutions, affective and ideological polarization. In addition, we include an incentivized measurement of political opinions where participants donate money to organizations with opposite political interests. We will test whether sentiment changes over time and whether specific events cause sudden shifts in the collective sentiment. These events will be identified and described with data gathered by the so-called event registry.
